About
Iris Ahn is a lighting designer at Hiram Banks Lighting Design based in San Francisco. She received her B.A. in Urban Design from New York University and M.F.A. in Lighting Design from Parsons The New School for Design in 2018. She is a recipient of Parsons Lighting Design Partners Thesis Prize for her commitment to establishing a counter-narrative aimed at generating and balancing positive social, institutional, environmental, and economic change.
Her latest work explores the relationship between existing street lighting condition and perceived level of safety at Jacob Riis Houses. She recognizes a major role that light plays in configuring well-being and sustainability. Her interest lies on re-evaluating traditional design process that entails spatial, technical, and aesthetic thinking and process, in order to bring positive influences in people’s lives as a designer.
Ahn is a member of IES Emerging Professionals, student IALD, and certified LEED Green Associate. When she is not practicing lighting design, she enjoys traveling to different parts of the world and immersing herself in nature.
